Our Lives,Our Community,
This two year community project was based in Exeter and used photography as a means of engagement, empowerment and training for residents of Exeter.
We achieved this by providing free participatory photography workshops and training in Exeter, with a focus on the residents of St James and City Centre areas of the City.
The project was managed by Olive Tree Association/Devon Grapevine, in partnership with Meridian Raw and was generously funded by The People Health Trust, whose aim is to help individuals, who may be suffering from social isolation, an opportunity to take part in a creative project, meet other people in their community and to provide a voice to those individuals who are not always heard.
The main focus of the two year project was six comprehensive participatory photography courses, each lasted a total of fourteen weeks in various locations in the city centre of Exeter. We started the project on the November 28th 2013 with the initial workshop at St Sidwells Centre in Exeter.
The 'Train the Trainer' courses provided participants with the skills to create their own participatory photography project and to provide an insight into the participatory photography processes.
Participants on the training course took part in the following activities:
-Learning Photo Dialogue Exercises
-Planning a Project
-Photography Treasure Hunt
-Basic Camera Skills
